Description

Each year, the Fromm Music Foundation accepts applications for commissions of new music, and awards commissions to fourteen American composers. The Fromm commission is available for all types of compositions regardless of idiom, instrumentation, style, or the use of technology, including jazz, hybrid, electronic, or other idioms. An additional performance stipend of $1500-4000 is available to the ensembles premiering these works.

Eligibility

To be eligible, a composer must be a legal permanent resident of the United States at the time of the application. For these purposes, "residents" shall be deemed to include U.S. Citizens and lawful permanent residents (green card holders) who have been lawfully admitted to, and reside in, the United States and can ensure they are legally able to be paid for services by Harvard University. Individuals with temporary or student visas are not eligible to apply. Please note: if you previously received a Fromm Commission, there is a fifteen-year waiting period (from the time it was awarded) before you can apply again. The commission is to create a new work and cannot be applied to projects that have been awarded other commissions or previously composed. The Fromm Music Foundation does not accept joint commissions or applications for composers from organizations. Individual composers must apply directly. Students of Harvard University are not eligible to apply until after they graduate.
